Champions Against Bullying

Awards & Accolades

Dear Alex:
The No-Nonsense Guide to Kids' Bullying Solutions has won the 2006 TOP 20 of the Year Parent to Parent Adding Wisdom Award! Congratulations and many kudos!
*In 2001, with the strong input specifically from our survey results, PBS/KIDS TV Executive Producer, Sue Castle, and Ken Goldstein, (then) VP Online Disney Media, and others, this compiled list of recommendations helped to finalize our plan to create an award-winning site that offers an award for products and to also move forward with both, a peel-off seal/sticker and a digital seal for special category winners. While it was expensive, we moved forward with a professional design team whom we consulted about the options. The finished product is just what we wanted and we are extremely proud to offer them to AWA winners.
Once again, congratulations on this amazing accomplishment! Please share it with potential buyers and the media -- you deserve it!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

“Congratulations on nailing a resource that finally captures and holds children’s attention. The kids loved the easily identifiable illustrations and remained interested to participate during role-playing and discussions. Every educator, parent and childcare facilitator should have this resource. The children and I thank you for making learning about child bullying issues enjoyable.”
-Jayne Garrett, Educator, Toronto

“The CD-ROM is very well detailed with definitions. It would be great if the parents had access to it as well as the teachers. That’s possible, right? I would definitely use it with my students – even have them use the CD-ROM and answer the questions. I like the definitions and the suggestions for solutions. Those could be put into posters to put around the school next year. I think it would benefit all teachers in our school.”
- Sonya Ham, Grade 4 teacher, Birch Cliff Heights

“I believe we can learn a lot from your experience and wisdom. I would like to talk to you about speaking to our staff and parents.”
- Linda Collins, Principal, Canada

“There is no doubt in my mind that you are the primary resource in Canada when it comes to this important topic. I am so pleased that I know about it all---i.e. that I can refer patients to the site and more. Thank you. Keep up the terrific work you do, Alex.”
- Dr. Peter Nieman – 15/2/07

“Bullying is a very worrisome issue for any parent with kids in school or especially kids starting school or moving on to a new level in school. Alexandra Penn and her colleague Delfina Moore teach educators, kids and parents across Canada how to deal with bullying. They launched a really dynamic anti-bullying resource available online at http://www.championsagainstbullying.com/home.php. And they have developed a fabulous interactive CD that is really useful to anybody. It's called The No-Nonsense Guide to Kids' Bullying Solutions. What I loved about it was that it models in wonderful animated vignettes what goes through the minds of everybody involved in a bullying situation, from the bullied to the bully, the bystanders and the parents or teachers. It empowers kids by giving them more perspective on what's happening. It helps them see through the immediate threat if they're being bullied, or to choose effective ways to help a friend who might be the target of bullying. There's nothing academic or obscure about these situations. These are real examples, using real language that everybody gets right away. The Ontario Ministry of Education recommends Champions Against Bullying. I hope you'll check it out as part of your back-to-school preparations.”
- Lucille Blainey, President, word.wise@sympatico.ca

“I had heard about the USDS workshop from a parent. Very positive feedback. It's great that you're also getting into classrooms. I think that a smaller venue (compared to assemblies) is often more appropriate and effective.” “Fabulous! I’m in the midst of circulating the link within the board and to the members of the parent coalition for safe schools of which I am involved.”
- Janis Jaffe-White, Parent Council, Blythewood School

“Congratulations, Alex. Quite an accomplishment!”
- Dr. I. Rootman, World Health Organization

“Alexandra Penn and Delfina Moore have developed an ingenious intervention and prevention program that encompasses appropriate illustrations accompanied with the tools of language. The No-Nonsense Guide to Kids’ Bullying Solutions is an interactive activity readily accessible to students, educators, parents and health professionals. Neo-natal parents would greatly benefit from this resource that helps them explore the kinds of behaviour that get in the way of creating a caring and loving environment for their newborn. Finally, a groundbreaker that launches a rare, indispensable and comprehensive approach to equipping us with a resource that’s effective.”
- Laura Ford, Ed.D., Doctor of Education in Applied Psychology, Executive Director, The Centre for Youth and Family

“I have just looked at the material you sent and WOW it’s fabulous! I would be interested in investigating the cost, as it is something we will be interested in showing our students. It’s really good and is written in a manner that is so reader friendly and practical. Thanks so much for sharing.”
– Linda Whitehead, Faculty, Loyalist College, Early Childhood Education

“Looks excellent. Thanks for it. Don't loose any momentum - your work will change lives.”
- Dr. Peter Nieman, Director, Children’s Obesity Clinic, Calgary, Alberta

“What a wonderful presentation! The students and I found it very informative, creating an awareness of this very important issue while teaching social skills.”
- Susan Hanover, Daycare Facilitator, Etobicoke

“I realized how effective your presentation was when another teacher approached me telling me how impressed she was with one of the students in my program. She explained that they had discussed the issue of bullying in her classroom the day before and this particular student had his hand up for every question. That’s when I realized the impact your presentation made on my students. Now we can become Champions Against Bullying.”
- Linda Petrie, After School Program Director, Bolton, Ontario

“It was fun role-playing the kids in the pictures. The other books that my teacher used were boring. This really helped me understand bullying, and what’s really important is that I now know what to do if I’m being bullied or see some else being bullied.”
- C.B. 10-years-old, Toronto.

“Alex, you both did such a great job today. Thank you so much for your contribution to our documentary. Good luck tomorrow, and thank you again.”
- Sunnie and Brennan, Documentary Filmmakers, Toronto

A valuable resource to have in every elementary classroom. A must for all schools.
- Milla Liska EIC SE5, Robert Service,TDSB “I am proud that you were recognized for your good work. I would like to send it to the rest of the group. Is that okay with you?”
- Robert Coghill, Guidance Resource Teacher, TSDB, Dec. 2005

“Your Ezine is by far the best I have seen yet. We are looking for a similar means for communication. We were recently awarded a Safe Schools/Healthy Schools grant from the U.S. Federal Government enabling us to implement many programs and practices to make our school a better place for kids. Can you assist us?”
– Olivia Hunter, Burlington, Vermont.

“Great job. The hard work is evident. Congratulations on this terrific and worthwhile endeavor! It’s going to do a lot of people a lot of good.”
– Hal Morton, Author, Canada

“What a great Ezine. I’ve bookmarked it. Good Work. Thanks for all that you do for kids.”
- Steve McChesney, Author of No Bullies, U.S.

“You’ve produced another gem. With many thanks and sincere appreciation.”
- Bill Belsey, Originator of www.bullying.org

“I have written a book on bullying and asking if you could possibly review it in your Ezine. I applaud your work. Almost everything else is aimed at dealing with bullying after it occurs. Looking forward to more Ezines.”
– Frank Davis, Australia

“Thank you, Alex and Pina. I would like to order a number of copies of your amazing resource and share it with the other leaders and parents. It practically teaches itself, and when you encouraged me to use it on my own, the results were phenomenal. I didn’t have to know much about bullying, yet, anyone would swear I was an expert on the subject. It made me look real good. The kids were also thrilled to use the CD-ROM on their own. The No-Nonsense Guide To Kids’ Bullying Solutions will be an effective tool for us, for many years to come.”
- Marisa Giancola, Recreational Director, PLASP

“On behalf of all of us, I want to thank you Alex and Delfina, for a most informative presentation filled with useful and practical advice. We loved the fact that it was participative and gave us the opportunity to ask questions as they arose. The enthusiasm and positive feedback on The No-Nonsense Guide To Kids’ Bullying Solutions has turned the heat on to ask you to return for a follow up session during our next corporate quality employee day. I’ll be in touch. Once again, many thanks.”
– Amy Baker, Director, Human Resources
